Typical weather

Singapore has a tropical climate: warm year round at around 31 to 33 degrees Celsius by day, dropping to 24 to 25 degrees at night, with high humidity of 70 to 90 percent. Short but heavy rain showers are common, even on sunny days, so carry an umbrella.

Currency and tipping

Prices are in Singapore Dollars (SGD). Tipping is optional: most restaurants and hotels already include a 10 percent service charge, and a 9 percent Goods and Services Tax (GST) applies.

Safety and emergencies

  • Police emergency: 999
  • Ambulance and fire (SCDF): 995

Hospitals near YWCA Fort Canning (5 to 10 minutes by car): Raffles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Hospital (private), Singapore General Hospital and KK Women's and Children's Hospital (public).

Conference dressing

Business casual or smart casual. Conference rooms are air-conditioned, so a blazer or cardigan is a good optional layer.
